Ecuador's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Engin Akbatu was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Engin Akbatu, who was totally free with the ball in the 29th minute. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Daniel Zorita stepped up to make the kick off in the second half.
