It was Giotis Kourmouzis who took care of the corner kick. After taking down the ball on Arsenal's corner Lucas Pimentel fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Kuno Lüdimõis quite easily take care of the ball. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ryszard Wnukowski prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Kuno Lüdimõis had in the 42ndth minute some difficulties stopping Giotis Kourmouzis's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. 48 minutes into the match, Fernando Marinho notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Arsenal's Ryszard Wnukowski. Ryszard Wnukowski was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Fernando Marinho to make the kick off.
