With a little luck, Clube Audax Metropolitano's Fernando Donatello got control of the ball when Victoriano Ixona tried to sneak it across the goal line. Valentin Lesardo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 12th minute. Fernando Donatello tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Menno Zuurman had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 18th minute Juan Gerber shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jose Chilavert saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience was convinced that Miguel Fontes's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jose Chilavert was relentless in the 19th minute of the game. Fernando Donatello took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Menno Zuurman, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With an all-out effort, Ilulea FC's Fernando Donatello threw himself towards the right post 29 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Victoriano Ixona, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. 32 minutes into the match, Valentin Lesardo had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Fernando Donatello. Clube Audax Metropolitano's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Valentin Lesardo was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. When Wiliam Martins came up free with the goalie in the 36th minute, the Clube Audax Metropolitano fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Wiliam Martins couldn't finish the play. In the 40th minute, Fellipe Bueno got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Hugo Calderona scored 1-2 in the 41st match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Jose Chilavert, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Hugo Calderona fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jose Chilavert having to interfere. Jose Chilavert came out of the goal in the 46th minute to try and stop a shot by Clube Audax Metropolitano's Miguel Fontes. But to his dismay, Miguel Fontes quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-3. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
The wind increased when Germano Gerber made the kick off in the second half. Clube Audax Metropolitano's Fernando Donatello played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Victoriano Ixona in the 54th minute of play. Carlos Alberto Parreira charged in rather forcefully in the 55th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Carlos Alberto Parreira the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Clube Audax Metropolitano getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Carlos Alberto Parreira hit a great ball. Germano Gerber sent away a hard shot on goal in the 59th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jose Chilavert made an important save on a dangerous shot by Hugo Calderona in the 61st minute. The crowd rose to their feet as Hugo Calderona kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Jose Chilavert. That made the score 1-4 in the 63 minute of play. In the 66th minute, Valentin Lesardo made a precise shot to the right of Fernando Donatello. Clube Audax Metropolitano's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-4. In the 73rd minute Valentin Lesardo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fernando Donatello saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 75 minutes, Juan Gerber mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Clube Audax Metropolitano and the Ilulea FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. Jose Chilavert was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it.
Clube Audax Metropolitano's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
