Gez Winship made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nelson Cearense in the 8th minute of play. The supporters of Ferreira Lopes MZC booed when Memphis Grizzlies was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 13 match minutes in a wonderful position. Michael Kellaway didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ferreira Lopes MZC's Filipe Cruz proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 16th minute of the match, managed to save Ferreira Lopes MZC from getting a goal against them. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Dave Fleming during the 17th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 20th minute José Luis Cuciuffo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Filipe Cruz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 23rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Memphis Grizzlies's goalkeeper Gez Winship, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by José Luis Cuciuffo in the 37th minute of play forced Ferreira Lopes MZC's goalkeeper Filipe Cruz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The Memphis Grizzlies fans' excitement grew in the 38th match minute when Memphis Grizzlies's Franky Van Der Elst looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 3-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. In the 43rd minute, Franky Van Der Elst ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Filipe Cruz was frozen by the shot and now it was 4-0. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Natanael Bittencourt to make the kick off. A collision led to Memphis Grizzlies getting a freekick after 50 minutes play. José Luis Cuciuffo hit a great ball. 54 minutes into the match, Ferreira Lopes MZC's goal looked a bit too open when José Luis Cuciuffo came free, but Filipe Cruz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Ferreira Lopes MZC's zone, José Luis Cuciuffo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Filipe Cruz came out of the goal and José Luis Cuciuffo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In a very dangerous position, a player in Ferreira Lopes MZC fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 65th minute. Penalty! The referee gave Memphis Grizzlies a penalty, 66 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Ferreira Lopes MZC's Filipe Cruz. 5-0. Memphis Grizzlies made a substitution. Peter Wiltshire replaced Franky Van Der Elst. Memphis Grizzlies's Franz Henry was substituted for José Luis Cuciuffo. After a rather tough play, Memphis Grizzlies's Ken Blackwater got a free kick in the 72nd minute. A sloppy throw-in by Angelo Sampaio in the 74th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Memphis Grizzlies's Ken Blackwater. The supporters of Memphis Grizzlies booed when Ferreira Lopes MZC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 75 match minutes in a wonderful position. Peter Wiltshire helped the player get up and apologised. Gez Winship made an important save on a dangerous shot by Andrézinho Magalhães in the 82nd minute. In the 84th minute, Franz Henry left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Memphis Grizzlies fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 7-0. When the match had gone on for 88 minutes, Franz Henry put it in 8-0 from a short distance just to the right of Filipe Cruz. After 91 played minutes Ferreira Lopes MZC got a freekick which was hit by Jano de Amorim. Memphis Grizzlies's Dave Fleming got a good chance for a goal in the 92nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Filipe Cruz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Peter Wiltshire in the 94th minute of play. A collision led to Ferreira Lopes MZC getting a freekick after 95 minutes play. Paulo Queirós hit a great ball.
There was no doubt that Memphis Grizzlies were the better team. Memphis Grizzlies's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
