In the 23rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Joga Bonito's goalkeeper Artur Boruc, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Artur Boruc made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 27th minute of play. 27 minutes into the match, Cristian Sancho had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Artur Boruc. Joga Bonito's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Cristian Sancho was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Ecuador's Julio Vera proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 31st minute of the match, managed to save Ecuador from getting a goal against them. Artur Boruc took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 33 minutes into the match, Daniel Zorita had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Artur Boruc. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in Joga Bonito's zone, Cristian Sancho stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Artur Boruc came out of the goal and Cristian Sancho tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 46th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Artur Boruc saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Klas Jansson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 47th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After the first half Ecuador were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Luo Wei Xi to make the kick off. Daniel Zorita could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 53rd minute of the match, but Artur Boruc made a huge save. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luo Wei Xi in the 54th minute of the match. When Luis Andino came up free with the goalie in the 59th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. Joga Bonito's Artur Boruc proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 65th minute of the match, managed to save Joga Bonito from getting a goal against them. In the 66thth minute of the game Alejo Eleazar who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ecuador's Julio Vera was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Artur Boruc made a fantastic save in the 68th minute, when Cristian Sancho sent off a good shot on target. When the match had gone on for 68 minutes, Cristian Sancho took a quick shot and it went in 1-4 without a chance for Artur Boruc to make any attempt to save it. With a little luck, Joga Bonito's Artur Boruc got control of the ball when Agustín Saelices tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 73rd match minute, Joga Bonito was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Andy Symons to maneuver through the defense. In the 76thth minute of the game Luo Wei Xi who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ecuador's Julio Vera was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball.
