Akis Sarafis made an important save on a dangerous shot by Julian Murillo in the 12th minute. Julian Murillo struck a weak shot in the 15th minute. Akis Sarafis didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Peru. Julian Murillo could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 26th minute of the match, but Akis Sarafis made a huge save. In the 27th minute Peru were awarded a corner. Luz Tejedor went to the cornerflag to take it. 29 minutes into the game, Luz Tejedor cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Akis Sarafis was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Rolando Noboa showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Michelangelo Merganiotis in the 32nd minute of the match. AFC Ajax's defense didn't have a chance, in the 33rd minute, when Julian Murillo scored to the left of an out of position Akis Sarafis, making the score, 2-0. Julian Murillo who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 40thth minute tested the skills of Akis Sarafis when he managed to save the team from getting behind. A sloppy throw-in by Lakis Tsopakis in the 41st minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Peru's Eliseo Mina. Stavros Tsebelis kicked well hit freekick during the 44th minute of the match. In the 45th minute of the match Luz Tejedor sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Akis Sarafis skillfully saved the ball. After 46 minutes AFC Ajax's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Luz Tejedor who took care of the corner kick. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Nikos Sterpis was the one to do the kick off. In the 54th minute Michelangelo Merganiotis shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rolando Noboa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Michelangelo Merganiotis had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. AFC Ajax made a substitution. Thalis Karteris replaced Aleksander Petka. AFC Ajax's Markos Seremetidis was substituted for Nikos Sterpis. 66 minutes into the match, Julian Murillo had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Akis Sarafis. AFC Ajax's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Julian Murillo was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 4-0. Akis Sarafis took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luz Tejedor, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Julian Murillo in the 80th minute of play forced AFC Ajax's goalkeeper Akis Sarafis to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Peru's Antonio Tenorio was substituted for Luz Tejedor. Peru's Rafael Gallo was substituted for Julian Murillo. The supporters of Peru booed when AFC Ajax was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 92 match minutes in a wonderful position. Stavros Tsebelis didn't get a good kick on the ball. Rolando Noboa made a fantastic save in the 95th minute, when Markos Seremetidis sent off a good shot on target. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Peru fully deserved thier win.
