After having played for 5 minutes, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 7th minute Agustín Saelices shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ovidio Cutberto saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ovidio Cutberto took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ovidio Cutberto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 13th minute of play. 15 minutes into the game, Ecuador's Cristian Sancho nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Ovidio Cutberto made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. After 18 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Felix Montenegro. Ovidio Cutberto took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Agustín Saelices, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some careless play in the Ecuador defense, Hipolito Tolino kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Julio Vera. The Ecuador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Julio Vera should have stopped the shot. A collision led to Ongamira getting a freekick after 26 minutes play. Fernando Jacob hit a great ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Daniel Zorita in the 29th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ovidio Cutberto saved Ongamira from getting behind. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 34 minutes play. Luis Andino hit a great ball. Ongamira's Hector Ganix got a good chance for a goal in the 37th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Ovidio Cutberto showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Agustín Saelices, who was totally free with the ball in the 40th minute. Camilo Gisbert kicked well hit freekick during the 42nd minute of the match. 47 minutes into the match, Ongamira's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Ovidio Cutberto reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

In the 50th minute, Genaro Vincent hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 53 minutes into the match, Ongamira's goalkeeper Ovidio Cutberto had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Felix Montenegro. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 56th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ovidio Cutberto having to interfere. Ongamira made a substitution. Marcelo Formerio replaced Hipolito Tolino. With a little luck, Ongamira's Ovidio Cutberto got control of the ball when Daniel Zorita tried to sneak it across the goal line. If Hector Ganix had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 61st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a good chance for a goal in the 70th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marcelo Formerio in the 72nd minute of play. If Daniel Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 76th minute Hector Ganix shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hector Ganix in the 78th minute of play. When Antonio Arias fell near the penalty area in the 82nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Ecuador's protests and gave Antonio Arias a yellow card for diving instead. Hector Ganix might have been able to make a better finish in the 86th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Julio Vera. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Hector Ganix ran back to his position shaking his head. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hector Ganix in the 87th minute of play. Ongamira's Ovidio Cutberto proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 91st minute of the match, managed to save Ongamira from getting a goal against them. Ongamira succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though Ecuador had controlled the match.
