After a defensive mix-up in Colombia's zone, Nikos Sterpis stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Pedro Manzanares came out of the goal and Nikos Sterpis tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 6th minute Nikos Sterpis shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pedro Manzanares saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Michelangelo Merganiotis received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 11th minute. Pedro Manzanares tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 13th minute the ball was on its way in behind Colombia's goalkeeper Pedro Manzanares, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After a rather tough play, AFC Ajax's Stavros Tsebelis got a free kick in the 19th minute. If Nikos Sterpis had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 28th play minutes Nikos Sterpis shot 0-1, a short shot which went by Pedro Manzanares and just under the crossbar into goal. 32 minutes into the match, AFC Ajax's goal looked a bit too open when Santino Seco came free, but Akis Sarafis reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 33rd minute, Colombia's Axel Montenegro ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Akis Sarafis. Santino Seco's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Akis Sarafis read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 47th minute of play. 48 minutes had been played when some careless play by AFC Ajax's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Axel Montenegro was slow to take the kick. During this time Colombia's players had a chance to rest. Disappointed in the 1-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

When Colombia's Santino Seco in the 52nd minute got a chance for a shot 52nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye AFC Ajax's goalie prevented a goal. When the match clock showed 54 minutes, the score became 2-2 when Abram Sarmiento sped through AFC Ajax's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Akis Sarafis. Akis Sarafis showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Santino Seco, who was totally free with the ball in the 58th minute. Luis Cazalla struck a weak shot in the 59th minute. Akis Sarafis didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Colombia. AFC Ajax made a substitution. Markos Seremetidis replaced Nikos Sterpis. Colombia's Pedro Manzanares played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Markos Seremetidis in the 63rd minute of play. The crowd rose to their feet as AFC Ajax's Markos Seremetidis slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Pedro Manzanares. That made the score 2-3 after 65 minutes of play. Axel Montenegro might have been able to make a better finish in the 68th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Akis Sarafis. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Axel Montenegro ran back to his position shaking his head. An unexpectedly hard shot by Axel Montenegro in the 68th minute of play forced AFC Ajax's goalkeeper Akis Sarafis to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Axel Montenegro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 74th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The audience was convinced that Abram Sarmiento's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Akis Sarafis was relentless in the 82nd minute of the game. Markos Seremetidis might have been able to make a better finish in the 87th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Pedro Manzanares. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Markos Seremetidis ran back to his position shaking his head. Colombia's Pedro Manzanares proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 87th minute of the match, managed to save Colombia from getting a goal against them. Colombia's Abram Secada was substituted for Axel Montenegro. Colombia made a substitution. Ignacio Mastache replaced Abram Sarmiento. AFC Ajax's Akis Sarafis played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Abram Secada in the 94th minute of play. Pascual Carballar kicked well hit freekick during the 96th minute of the match. The Colombia supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching AFC Ajax's performance. The match ended with a win for AFC Ajax.
