But to his dismay, Lorenzo Santa María quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. 21 minutes into the match, Santiago Futebol Clube's goal looked a bit too open when Tomas Illescas came free, but Dan Cambridge reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Santiago Futebol Clube's zone, Tomas Illescas stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. When the match clock showed 37 minutes, the score became 2-0 when Lorenzo Santa María sped through Venezuela's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. After 42 played minutes Santiago Futebol Clube got a freekick which was hit by Enrique Arósio. Santiago Futebol Clube's Lorenzo Santa María got a good chance for a goal in the 45th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Lorenzo Santa María made a kick off. When Jose Correa fell near the penalty area in the 51st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Venezuela's protests and gave Jose Correa a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Venezuela getting a freekick after 51 minutes play. Jose Correa hit a great ball. After a defensive mix-up in Venezuela's zone, Nico Bueno stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jonathan Ferrant came out of the goal and Nico Bueno tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After a rather tough play, Venezuela's Camilo Gaos got a free kick in the 55th minute. 56 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goal looked a bit too open when Lorenzo Santa María came free, but Jonathan Ferrant reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Tomas Illescas might have been able to make a better finish in the 61st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Dan Cambridge. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Tomas Illescas ran back to his position shaking his head. Jonathan Ferrant made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lorenzo Santa María in the 67th minute of play. After 68 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Tomas Illescas. In the 69th minute, Tomas Illescas hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Jonathan Ferrant took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cauan Favoretto, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Santiago Futebol Clube's Francisco Zanette was substituted for Nico Bueno. In the 90th match minute, Venezuela was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jose Correa to maneuver through the defense.
