After some fancy dribbling in the 13th minute, Ivan Rubio managed to get in a good position for a shot. Foguera's supporters rose to their feet, but Ivan Rubio was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ivan Rubio recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 25th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ivan Rubio in the 27th minute of play forced Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 28th minute David Villa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathan Ferrant saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by David Villa in the 31st minute of play forced Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 35th minute, Anton Sundin sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant didn't even have to move. 38 minutes had been played when some careless play by Foguera's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Venezuela's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Foguera the free kick. The supporters of Foguera booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 43 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rigoberto Mina didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 44th minute of the match Anton Sundin sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Jonathan Ferrant skillfully saved the ball. Venezuela's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Anton Sundin ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner ended in Frank Isward almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant did a great save.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Tomas Illescas made a kick off. David Villa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 50th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jonathan Ferrant having to interfere. When Patricio Costa came up free with the goalie in the 52nd minute, the Venezuela fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Patricio Costa couldn't finish the play. After 53 played minutes Foguera got a freekick which was hit by Prometeo Domenech. In the 54th minute Patricio Costa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Santiago Cañizares saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 56th minute, Foguera's Ivan Rubio ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Jonathan Ferrant. Jonathan Ferrant yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-2. Ivan Rubio kicked well hit freekick during the 63rd minute of the match. Jonathan Ferrant was out of position in the 65 minute of play, and Ivan Rubio capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Ivan Rubio really showed his touch with that goal: 0-3. In the 69th minute, David Villa reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Jonathan Ferrant. The goal made the score 0-4. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Jose Correa during the 71st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 72nd minute, Ivan Rubio got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a rather tough play, Venezuela's Jonathan Venegas got a free kick in the 79th minute. After having played for 80 minutes, Anton Sundin managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Foguera's supporters crossed their fingers, but Anton Sundin was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 92nd minute Ivan Rubio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathan Ferrant saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the final whistle sounded Foguera left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Venezuela.
