With his leg Julio Vera managed to avoid a goal in the 34thth minute, when ALF⚽RNEL⚽S FC's Frederico Salazar fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Luis Andino's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Dário Veríssimo read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 43rd minute of play. A hard and well directed shot from Luis Andino led 43 minutes into the game to a goal after the ball had bounced deceptively just in front of the goal. ALF⚽RNEL⚽S FC's Dário Veríssimo became a little unsure and couldn't grip the ball before it was over the goalline. Thus it was 2-2. Dário Veríssimo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 47th minute. 48 minutes had been played when some careless play by ALF⚽RNEL⚽S FC's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Daniel Zorita was slow to take the kick. During this time Ecuador's players had a chance to rest. The corner led Ecuador's Juan Sebastián Puig to fire away a dangerous shot which Dário Veríssimo despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Frederico Salazar to make the kick off. Daniel Zorita blasted a shot towards the goal in the 51st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Dário Veríssimo having to make a save. If Luis Andino had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Frederico Salazar in the 62nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Julio Vera prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Agustín Saelices received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 63rd minute. Dário Veríssimo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Frederico Salazar, who was totally free with the ball in the 66th minute. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 74th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dário Veríssimo having to interfere. In the 76th minute Frederico Salazar shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. ALF⚽RNEL⚽S FC's Dário Veríssimo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 80th minute of play. Many of Ecuador's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Ecuador may have spent more time on the ball, but ALF⚽RNEL⚽S FC were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
