An unexpectedly hard shot by Felix Montenegro in the 14th minute of play forced SANTOS F.C's goalkeeper Cauã Domingues to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 15 minutes SANTOS F.C's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Daniel Zorita who took care of the corner kick. After 15 minutes of play, Ecuador's Agustín Saelices made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Cauã Domingues was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 19th minute, Marcelo Proença hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 19th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cauã Domingues saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Abel Neto, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. Cauã Domingues made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 26th minute of play. In the 27th minute Ecuador were awarded a corner. Daniel Zorita went to the cornerflag to take it. Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a good chance for a goal in the 33rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Cauã Domingues made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 34th minute of play. Ecuador were awarded a corner in the 36th minute after SANTOS F.C's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Daniel Zorita took the corner. After 39 minutes, Felix Montenegro made it 0-2 with a short kick to the right side. SANTOS F.C's Cauã Domingues tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. SANTOS F.C's Cauã Domingues played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 41st minute of play. A collision led to SANTOS F.C getting a freekick after 43 minutes play. Valério Rossi hit a great ball. Abel Neto took the ball and in the 45 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Julio Vera. Julio Vera dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-2. The SANTOS F.C players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Ecuador were winning 1-2.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Durvalino Soeiro made a kick off. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Abel Neto in the 54th minute of the match. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. SANTOS F.C's Cauã Domingues proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 63rd minute of the match, managed to save SANTOS F.C from getting a goal against them. 68 minutes had been played when some careless play by Ecuador's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Betão Torres was slow to take the kick. During this time SANTOS F.C's players had a chance to rest. Julio Vera came out of the goal in the 71st minute to try and stop a shot by SANTOS F.C's Abel Neto. But to his dismay, Abel Neto quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-2. 75 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Cauã Domingues narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Dalmo Cerezo charged in rather forcefully in the 79th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Dalmo Cerezo the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, SANTOS F.C's Dalmo Cerezo got a free kick in the 79th minute. In the 80th minute, Daniel Zorita got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Abel Neto, who was totally free with the ball in the 82nd minute. Cauã Domingues made a fantastic save in the 84th minute, when Daniel Zorita sent off a good shot on target. In the 88th match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Daniel Zorita to maneuver through the defense. Gustavo Vinhas sent away a hard shot on goal in the 91st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ecuador were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
