Akis Sarafis didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Julian Murillo went, in the 22nd minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. Rolando Noboa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Michelangelo Merganiotis in the 26th minute of play. Luz Tejedor could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 35th minute of the match, but Akis Sarafis made a huge save. The supporters of AFC Ajax booed when Peru was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 37 match minutes in a wonderful position. Efraim Gilabert didn't get a good kick on the ball. Rolando Noboa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nikos Sterpis, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

With a little luck, Peru's Rolando Noboa got control of the ball when German Sarracino tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 57th minute, Eliseo Mina ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Akis Sarafis was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. Rolando Noboa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Michelangelo Merganiotis, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Rolando Noboa stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Markos Seremetidis's shot from short distance in the 66th minute. In the 67th match minute, Peru was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Milagros Fraga to maneuver through the defense. In the 72nd match minute, Peru was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Joaquin Prats to maneuver through the defense. Peru's Rolando Noboa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Michelangelo Merganiotis in the 73rd minute of play. Peru's Julian Murillo got a good chance for a goal in the 75th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The supporters of AFC Ajax booed when Peru was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 83 match minutes in a wonderful position. Efraim Gilabert didn't get a good kick on the ball. Peru made a substitution. Rafael Gallo replaced Julian Murillo. Efraim Gilabert kicked well hit freekick during the 85th minute of the match. Peru's attentive Eliseo Mina managed to snatch the ball when Lambis Zacharatos made a throw-in in the 89th minute of the game.
