After a rather tough play, Itapeipu AD's Cássio Vander got a free kick in the 5th minute. When Jaime Cazalla came up free with the goalie in the 6th minute, the Uruguay fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jaime Cazalla couldn't finish the play. Itapeipu AD were awarded a corner in the 14th minute after Uruguay's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Belmiro Quadros took the corner. After taking down the ball on Itapeipu AD's corner Belmiro Quadros fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Joaquin Gayoso quite easily take care of the ball. In the 32nd minute, one of Uruguay:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Uruguay. The goalkeeper, Joaquin Gayoso, was totally fooled by Itapeipu AD's Bebeto de Carvalho, who 33 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. In the 37th minute, Greg Marshall got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Greg Marshall might have been able to make a better finish in the 44th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Joaquin Gayoso. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Greg Marshall ran back to his position shaking his head. Silvinho de Lima hit a great freekick 47 minutes into the match. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 4-0.

Uruguay's Joaquin Gayoso played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bebeto de Carvalho in the 53rd minute of play. Itapeipu AD's Silvinho Monteiro proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 54th minute of the match, managed to save Itapeipu AD from getting a goal against them. Joaquin Gayoso took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Bebeto de Carvalho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With a little luck, Itapeipu AD's Silvinho Monteiro got control of the ball when Francisco Seco tried to sneak it across the goal line. Dênis Passos hit a great freekick 60 minutes into the match. Bebeto de Carvalho took the ball and in the 99 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Joaquin Gayoso. Joaquin Gayoso dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 6-0. Itapeipu AD were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Uruguay for a fine match.
