Marcos Cotilla made a fantastic save in the 3rd minute, when Rui Silva sent off a good shot on target. Eliseu Dante lost his temper 8 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. The referee gave Panama a penalty, 10 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Abraham Alguacil, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Inazuma Japan's Zé Vieira. 0-1. Antônio Aguiar could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 12th minute of the match, but Marcos Cotilla made a huge save. Tomas Berganza fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 14th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Zé Vieira having to interfere. Zé Vieira took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tomas Berganza, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 19th minute of the match Panama got a corner. Inazuma Japan's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Abraham Alguacil ran over to the corner to take the kick. A collision led to Panama getting a freekick after 20 minutes play. Alex Cambeiro hit a great ball. Zé Vieira showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tomas Berganza in the 23rd minute of the match. Tomas Berganza recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 26th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Tomas Berganza received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 28th minute. Zé Vieira tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Marcos Cotilla showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Antônio Aguiar, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. Felipe Ros kicked well hit freekick during the 37th minute of the match. After some careless play in the Panama defense, Hortêncio Montenegro kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Marcos Cotilla. The Panama fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Marcos Cotilla should have stopped the shot. Tomas Berganza struck a weak shot in the 42nd minute. Zé Vieira didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Panama. 45 minutes into the game, Caetano Fontes was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Inazuma Japan's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Panama the free kick. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Antônio Aguiar was the one to do the kick off. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
