Spectators: 47 (Terracing: 36, Seating: 11, VIP seats: 0) Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from German Sarracino in the 6th minute of play. When the match clock showed 15 minutes, the score became 0-1 when Nikos Sterpis sped through Costa Rica's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Benito Sanz. The supporters of AFC Ajax booed when Costa Rica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 18 match minutes in a wonderful position. Abel Carballo didn't get a good kick on the ball. Aleksander Petka sent away a hard shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 21 minutes into the match, AFC Ajax's Nikos Sterpis sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Benito Sanz narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Michelangelo Merganiotis struck a weak shot in the 22nd minute. Benito Sanz didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for AFC Ajax. Nikos Sterpis took the ball and in the 23 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Benito Sanz. Benito Sanz dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. Benito Sanz didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from German Sarracino went, in the 25th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-3 was the resulting score. The audience was convinced that Nikos Sterpis's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Benito Sanz was relentless in the 29th minute of the game. Benito Sanz came out of the goal in the 31st minute to try and stop a shot by AFC Ajax's Nikos Sterpis. But to his dismay, Nikos Sterpis quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-4. The supporters of AFC Ajax booed when Costa Rica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 39 match minutes in a wonderful position. Juan Rubio didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Juan Rubio got a free kick in the 41st minute. In the 43rd minute of the match Aleksander Petka shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Benito Sanz showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. AFC Ajax's German Sarracino got a good chance for a goal in the 45th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The Costa Rica players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. AFC Ajax were winning 0-5.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Axel Tasis made a kick off. Nikos Sterpis was extremely unlucky when he, in the 51st minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nikos Sterpis in the 53rd minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 57th minute, Efrain Moruga hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. AFC Ajax made a substitution. Aureo Morera replaced German Sarracino. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Efrain Moruga got a free kick in the 58th minute. Benito Sanz made an important save on a dangerous shot by Markos Seremetidis in the 59th minute. Markos Seremetidis got a fine position in front of goal ttaking advantage of the opportunity to rumble in 0-6 in the right cross in the 62nd match minute before Benito Sanz had time to react. Markos Seremetidis fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 64th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benito Sanz having to interfere. Benito Sanz made a fantastic save in the 69th minute, when Markos Seremetidis sent off a good shot on target. In the 70th minute, Michelangelo Merganiotis got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 72nd minute, Markos Seremetidis ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Benito Sanz was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-7. If Markos Seremetidis had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Markos Seremetidis sent away a hard shot on goal in the 81st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The crowd rose to their feet as Markos Seremetidis kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Benito Sanz. That made the score 0-8 in the 82 minute of play. 87 minutes into the game, AFC Ajax's Markos Seremetidis nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Benito Sanz made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-9. If Markos Seremetidis had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 90th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Markos Seremetidis took the ball and in the 92 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Benito Sanz. Benito Sanz dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-10. After 96 minutes, Markos Seremetidis made it 0-11 with a short kick to the right side. Costa Rica's Benito Sanz tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot.
