Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hüsrev Yaşar having to interfere. In the 23rd minute Özkan Rafettin shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 25 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Özkan Rafettin came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Hüsrev Yaşar made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luis Andino in the 26th minute of play. Hüsrev Yaşar took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Camilo Gisbert hit a great freekick 38 minutes into the match. HHH's Tolga Saye got a good chance for a goal in the 39th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 41st minute Luis Andino shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hüsrev Yaşar saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 43 minutes into the game, Oğuzalp Sayfi was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Cristian Sancho who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 53rdth minute tested the skills of Hüsrev Yaşar when he managed to save the team from getting behind. When the match clock showed 56 minutes, the score became 1-0 when Özkan Rafettin sped through Ecuador's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Julio Vera.
