Camilo Freixa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sean Allison, who was totally free with the ball in the 15th minute. In the 17th minute, Alfredo Ferrant got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 24 played minutes Bolivia got a freekick which was hit by Alfonso de la Cruz. Eduardo Fontirroig received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 26th minute. Dario Cambiasso tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Mario Fernandino had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Camilo Freixa came out of the goal and Alfredo Garaile tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Silvio Egun in the 65th minute of play forced Bolivia's goalkeeper Camilo Freixa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Bolivia getting a freekick after 67 minutes play. Eduardo Fontirroig hit a great ball.
