In the 14th minute Torgny Landin shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Thiago Pliego saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Torgny Landin in the 17th minute of play forced Chile's goalkeeper Thiago Pliego to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the match had gone on for 20 minutes, Torgny Landin took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Thiago Pliego to make any attempt to save it. In the 28th minute, Torgny Landin left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Boca Juniors fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-0. After 40 played minutes, Chile's Mariano Lacasa shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Jens-Åke Källberg came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Chile reached it. Mariano Lacasa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 51st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 57th minute, Edvard Dusett hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Boca Juniors's Jan Höijer was substituted for Özkan Kayaer. Jose Manzanedo kicked well hit freekick during the 61st minute of the match. In the 66th minute Torgny Landin shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Thiago Pliego saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Boca Juniors's Jens-Åke Källberg proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 71st minute of the match, managed to save Boca Juniors from getting a goal against them. 75 minutes into the match, Chile's Mariano Lacasa sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Jens-Åke Källberg narrowly saved just below the crossbar. With a little luck, Boca Juniors's Jens-Åke Källberg got control of the ball when Mariano Lacasa tried to sneak it across the goal line. Torgny Landin's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Thiago Pliego read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 92nd minute of play. 92 minutes into the game, Boca Juniors's Torgny Landin nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Thiago Pliego made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-1. The supporters of Boca Juniors booed when Chile was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 94 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jose Manzanedo didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 95th minute, Torgny Landin managed to get in a good position for a shot. Boca Juniors's supporters rose to their feet, but Torgny Landin was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Thiago Pliego breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The Boca Juniors players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
