Mariano Lacasas short, quick shot in the 16thth minute got Viriato Cruz to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Mariano Lacasa struck a weak shot in the 20th minute. Viriato Cruz didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Chile. After a rather tough play, Chile's Alan Tamayo got a free kick in the 22nd minute. Chile's Mariano Lacasa was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Viriato Cruz in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. After some fancy dribbling in the 91st minute, Guillermo Fontirroig managed to get in a good position for a shot. Chile's supporters rose to their feet, but Guillermo Fontirroig was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Viriato Cruz breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
