A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 7 minutes play. Aaron Alcocer hit a great ball. Costa Rica's Benito Sanz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Qerim Shala in the 13th minute of play. Stig-Ove Lundblad could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 15th minute of the match, but Benito Sanz made a huge save. In the 20th match minute, Kosteños was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Antoni Amorebieta to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in Kosteños's zone, Lautaro Puig stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Oswaldo Murillo came out of the goal and Lautaro Puig tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 22 minutes play. Alan Moruga hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eliseo Noboa in the 25th minute of play forced Kosteños's goalkeeper Oswaldo Murillo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Eloy Pacorro in the 38th minute of play. Eliseo Noboa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. Oswaldo Murillo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The wind increased when Qerim Shala made the kick off in the second half. 53 minutes into the match, Qerim Shala had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Benito Sanz. Costa Rica's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Qerim Shala was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-0. Oswaldo Murillo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Axel Tasis in the 62nd minute of the match. Joel Venceslao hit a great freekick 69 minutes into the match. Costa Rica's Axel Tasis couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 69th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Kosteños. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Qerim Shala in the 73rd minute of play. In the 74th minute, Eloy Pacorro got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Hugo Ferrant hit a great freekick 75 minutes into the match. Benito Sanz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Qerim Shala, who was totally free with the ball in the 77th minute. Lautaro Puig's late challenge caught a Kosteños's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Axel Tasis sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Qerim Shala took the ball and in the 95 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Benito Sanz. Benito Sanz dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-0.
