In the 14th match minute, Paraguay was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Xavier Zoido to maneuver through the defense. Duda Peixoto recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 15th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Jaime Pardo could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 23rd minute of the match, but Róbson Arósio made a huge save. After 26 minutes, Oswaldo Porto mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the ㄈㄩㄥㄗㄙ and the Paraguay players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, ㄈㄩㄥㄗㄙ's Oswaldo Porto got a free kick in the 26th minute. Jaime Pardo could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 33rd minute of the match, but Róbson Arósio made a huge save. Jaime Pardo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Róbson Arósio having to interfere. In the 46th minute Edu Saraiva shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jacobo Nores saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the match had gone on for 48 minutes, Jaime Pardo took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Róbson Arósio to make any attempt to save it. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

After some fancy dribbling in the 54th minute, Jaime Pardo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Paraguay's supporters rose to their feet, but Jaime Pardo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Róbson Arósio breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Gugu de Toledo charged in rather forcefully in the 75th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Gugu de Toledo the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to ㄈㄩㄥㄗㄙ getting a freekick after 75 minutes play. If Juvenal Corrêa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Paraguay were unable to convert their possession into goals, allowing ㄈㄩㄥㄗㄙ to leave the ground with a draw.
