Spectators: 39 (Terracing: 30, Seating: 9, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Axel Tasis started the match with the kick off. The supporters of Riograndense FC booed when Costa Rica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 2 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lino Torres fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 3rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benito Sanz having to interfere. Wellington Sena came out of the goal in the 7th minute to try and stop a shot by Costa Rica's Eliseo Noboa. But to his dismay, Eliseo Noboa quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. 11 minutes into the game, Edu Donatello was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Riograndense FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Costa Rica the free kick. If Lautaro Puig had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 12th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Eliseo Noboa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 20th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Wellington Sena having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 22nd minute, Lino Torres managed to get in a good position for a shot. Riograndense FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Lino Torres was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Benito Sanz breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When Pedro Augusto Vasconcelos fell near the penalty area in the 26th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Riograndense FC's protests and gave Pedro Augusto Vasconcelos a yellow card for diving instead. In the 30th minute, Juan Almeida ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Benito Sanz was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. After 32 played minutes Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Lautaro Puig. 33 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Lino Torres came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 35 minutes into the match, Lino Torres dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Benito Sanz, 2-1. 39 minutes into the game, Costa Rica's Axel Tasis nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Wellington Sena made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-2. The first half was very even, with the score at 2-2 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Benito Sanz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lino Torres, who was totally free with the ball in the 54th minute. After 57 played minutes Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Eliseo Noboa. Eliseo Noboa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 61st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Wellington Sena having to interfere. Lautaro Puig in the 63rdth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Wellington Sena, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. 63 minutes into the game, one of Costa Rica:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Benito Sanz had in the 65thth minute some difficulties stopping Yuri Meira's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. 65 minutes into the game, Yuri Meira cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-2. Benito Sanz was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Eliseo Noboa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 70th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Riograndense FC's Rômulo Fontes got a good chance for a goal in the 72nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 79 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Lino Torres came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Benito Sanz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lino Torres in the 85th minute of the match. After 86 played minutes Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Eliseo Noboa. In the 88th match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Eliseo Noboa to maneuver through the defense. After some careless play in the Costa Rica defense, Lino Torres kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Benito Sanz. The Costa Rica fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Benito Sanz should have stopped the shot.
