Juan Almeida hit a great ball. Lino Torres received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 16th minute. Jacobo Nores tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Hector Covarrubias fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Wellington Sena having to interfere. 28 minutes into the match, Paraguay's goalkeeper Jacobo Nores had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Juan Almeida. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Primitivo Escribano during the 30th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 30 played minutes Paraguay got a freekick which was hit by Primitivo Escribano. After a defensive mix-up in Paraguay's zone, Juan Almeida stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jacobo Nores came out of the goal and Juan Almeida tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Lino Torres's late challenge caught a Paraguay's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Lino Torres helped the player get up and apologised. 35 minutes into the match, Riograndense FC's goal looked a bit too open when Jaime Pardo came free, but Wellington Sena reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Wellington Sena didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Jaime Pardo went, in the 35th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. In the 37th match minute, Paraguay was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Primitivo Escribano to maneuver through the defense. After some careless play in the Paraguay defense, Lino Torres kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jacobo Nores. The Paraguay fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jacobo Nores should have stopped the shot. 44 minutes into the game, Alan Campos was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Paraguay's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Riograndense FC the free kick. After 45 played minutes Paraguay got a freekick which was hit by Alan Campos. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Paraguay's Primitivo Escribano got a good chance for a goal in the 52nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 54th minute, Tião Neiva hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After some fancy dribbling in the 56th minute, Primitivo Escribano managed to get in a good position for a shot. Paraguay's supporters rose to their feet, but Primitivo Escribano was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Wellington Sena breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Jaime Pardo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 58th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jacobo Nores showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lino Torres in the 61st minute of the match. Primitivo Escribano hit a great freekick 63 minutes into the match. The audience was convinced that Jaime Pardo's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Wellington Sena was relentless in the 73rd minute of the game. In the 77th minute, Hector Covarrubias ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Wellington Sena was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-2. The audience thought a goal was coming when Jaime Pardo got free with Wellington Sena in the 83rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Jaime Pardo struck a weak shot in the 86th minute. Wellington Sena didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Paraguay. The supporters of Paraguay booed when Riograndense FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 87 match minutes in a wonderful position. Yuri Meira didn't get a good kick on the ball. 90 minutes into the match, Riograndense FC's goal looked a bit too open when Jaime Pardo came free, but Wellington Sena reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Hector Covarrubias hit a great freekick 92 minutes into the match. Paraguay were clearly unhappy with the draw, as they felt they had done enough to earn themselves a victory.
