Alexander Roikjer kicked well hit freekick during the 30th minute of the match. 32 minutes into the match, El Salvador's Moises Fernandino sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Mátyás Papp narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Mátyás Papp stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Moises Fernandino's shot from short distance in the 39th minute. Alexander Roikjer hit a great freekick 45 minutes into the match. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

When the match clock showed 57 minutes, the score became 2-3 when Henry Aronsson sped through El Salvador's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Ricardo Zorita. The audience thought a goal was coming when Moises Fernandino got free with Mátyás Papp in the 84th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 95th match minute, El Salvador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Abram Luque to maneuver through the defense. Ricardo Zorita took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alessandro Coviello, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. El Salvador were clearly unhappy with the draw, as they felt they had done enough to earn themselves a victory.
