Axel Tasis fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tolek Tyski having to interfere. 32 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's Eliseo Noboa sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Tolek Tyski narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 35th minute Kajetan Banan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benito Sanz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 45th minute, Hieronim Logewnik managed to get in a good position for a shot. Borussia Dortmund's supporters rose to their feet, but Hieronim Logewnik was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Benito Sanz breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Radomil Jenkot was the one to do the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kajetan Banan in the 56th minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Cyprian Brak hit a great freekick 59 minutes into the match. Eliseo Noboa struck a weak shot in the 60th minute. Tolek Tyski didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Costa Rica. Benito Sanz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Radomil Jenkot, who was totally free with the ball in the 64th minute. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Alan Moruga got a free kick in the 68th minute. Kajetan Banan sent away a hard shot on goal in the 92nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 94th minute, Hieronim Logewnik got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When the referee ended the match the Borussia Dortmund players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
