With an all-out effort, Ecuador's Tymoteusz Sanocki threw himself towards the right post 36 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Cristian Sancho, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. If Daniel Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dráusio Mendes, who was totally free with the ball in the 43rd minute. Felix Montenegro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 59th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tymoteusz Sanocki having to interfere. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
