In the 16th minute, Colombia's Orlando Tafalla seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Orlando Tafalla the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Colombia protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Orlando Tafalla had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In the 16th minute, one of Colombia:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Colombia. Pedro Manzanares had in the 19thth minute some difficulties stopping Zeca Gadda's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. In the 22nd minute Abram Sarmiento shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marcell Yashin saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 25 minutes into the match, Fortunato Miner had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Pedro Manzanares. Colombia's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Fortunato Miner was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-0. Marcell Yashin stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Abram Sarmiento's shot from short distance in the 28th minute. Pedro Manzanares showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Zeca Gadda, who was totally free with the ball in the 32nd minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Zeca Gadda in the 33rd minute of play forced Colombia's goalkeeper Pedro Manzanares to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
