Yahia van der Saar was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Monty Rogers showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 11 minute of play. After some careless play in the Sheriff defense, Cassius Byrne kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Yahia van der Saar. The Sheriff fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Yahia van der Saar should have stopped the shot. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-1 at half-time.

Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Clayton Gol in the 51st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Marco Day prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 55th minute Edward Mcdonald shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Yahia van der Saar saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Damaso Xacintu in the 56th minute of play forced USA's goalkeeper Marco Day to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Yahia van der Saar made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Monty Rogers in the 58th minute of play. Cassius Byrne fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Yahia van der Saar having to interfere. Sheriff's Iraklis Karasavvidis was substituted for Dragoş Bălace. 67 minutes into the match, USA's goal looked a bit too open when Damaso Xacintu came free, but Marco Day reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Yahia van der Saar took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cassius Byrne, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Damaso Xacintu came up free with the goalie in the 73rd minute, the Sheriff fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Damaso Xacintu couldn't finish the play. USA's Sam Campbell was substituted for Cassius Byrne. After a defensive mix-up in Sheriff's zone, Monty Rogers stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Yahia van der Saar came out of the goal and Monty Rogers tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Yahia van der Saar showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Khalid Parry in the 82nd minute of the match. Yahia van der Saar made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sam Campbell in the 91st minute of play. USA's Marco Day played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Damaso Xacintu in the 92nd minute of play. In a very dangerous position, a player in USA fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 94th minute. Penalty! When the match had been going on for 95 minutes, Sheriff's Damaso Xacintu got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Marco Day. USA were unable to convert their possession into goals, allowing Sheriff to leave the ground with a draw.
