Spectators: 42 (Terracing: 32, Seating: 10, VIP seats: 0) VIP's Ştefan Coșereanu started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 3rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dumitru Berca having to interfere. 6 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ştefan Coșereanu. In the 7th minute, Cristian Sancho got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Dumitru Berca took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ecuador's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Daniel Zorita in the 10th minute. Dumitru Berca showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 21st minute. Ecuador's Julio Vera proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 23rd minute of the match, managed to save Ecuador from getting a goal against them. After having played for 24 minutes, Cristian Sancho managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. The supporters of Ecuador booed when VIP was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 28 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dobri Karapetrov didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Agustín Saelices had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dumitru Berca made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 34th minute of play. Ştefan Coșereanu came free with the goalkeeper in the 36th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Julio Vera could save by the left post. Ştefan Coșereanu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 38th minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Felix Montenegro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dumitru Berca having to interfere. With a little luck, Ecuador's Julio Vera got control of the ball when Ştefan Coșereanu tried to sneak it across the goal line. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Cristian Sancho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 62nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 68 minutes Ecuador's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Ilie Buhuș who took care of the corner kick. 76 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Ştefan Coșereanu came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Cristian Sancho struck a weak shot in the 80th minute. Dumitru Berca didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. 88 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Dumitru Berca narrowly saved just below the crossbar. VIP succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though Ecuador had controlled the match.
