In the 10th minute Donzel Goyeneta shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marco Day saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 11th match minute, AEK S.C was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sakis Tavlaridis to maneuver through the defense. Cassius Byrne fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 15th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Thanasis Koltsidas having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cassius Byrne in the 25th minute of play forced AEK S.C's goalkeeper Thanasis Koltsidas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Marco Day took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jelte Bleiswijk, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Cassius Byrne stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After 85 played minutes AEK S.C got a freekick which was hit by Konstantinos Kouventolakis. The long shot by Jenson Smith in the 86th minute really tested Thanasis Koltsidas's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Sam Campbell got free with Thanasis Koltsidas in the 87th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 89 minutes into the match, AEK S.C's Kevin Carreira sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Marco Day narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Jelte Bleiswijk sent away a hard shot on goal in the 91st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The AEK S.C support was delighted with a win in a match that could easily have ended differently.
