Jose Correa kicked well hit freekick during the 5th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ademir Tande in the 7th minute of play forced Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Venezuela booed when Seterma Tractors was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. Acácio Santana didn't get a good kick on the ball. Patricio Costa struck a weak shot in the 16th minute. Patrik Sikström didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Venezuela. Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ademir Tande in the 29th minute of play. Ademir Tande blasted a shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Jonathan Ferrant having to make a save. If Tomas Illescas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jonathan Ferrant made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ademir Tande in the 41st minute of play. When Tomas Illescas came up free with the goalie in the 45th minute, the Venezuela fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tomas Illescas couldn't finish the play. Acácio Santana received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 47th minute. Jonathan Ferrant tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.

The wind increased when Ademir Tande made the kick off in the second half. After a defensive mix-up in Venezuela's zone, Ademir Tande stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jonathan Ferrant came out of the goal and Ademir Tande tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 61st minute, Patricio Costa got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Jonathan Ferrant made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ademir Tande in the 63rd minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Tomas Illescas got free with Patrik Sikström in the 74th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 75th match minute, Seterma Tractors was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Edgardo Bauza to maneuver through the defense. Edgardo Bauza hit a great freekick 76 minutes into the match. 94 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goal looked a bit too open when Ademir Tande came free, but Jonathan Ferrant reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
