The supporters of Mexico booed when Club Atlético de Newell was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 10 match minutes in a wonderful position. Pastor Eufemio didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Lautaro Mancebo in the 12th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Dušan Ančic saved Club Atlético de Newell from getting behind. After 13 minutes Club Atlético de Newell's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Joel Gaona who took care of the corner kick. A collision led to Mexico getting a freekick after 13 minutes play. Facundo Cadaval hit a great ball. Pastor Eufemio could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 16th minute of the match, but Dante Lacasa made a huge save. In the 26th minute Spike Foley shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dante Lacasa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Spike Foley's late challenge caught a Mexico's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Spike Foley helped the player get up and apologised. Spike Foley kicked well hit freekick during the 28th minute of the match. 32 minutes into the match, Club Atlético de Newell's goal looked a bit too open when Lautaro Mancebo came free, but Dušan Ančic reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 34 played minutes Mexico got a freekick which was hit by Luca Zorita. A hard shot by Albert Gamble from long distance, 35 minutes into the match, got Dante Lacasa's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alberto Tafalla in the 38th minute of play forced Club Atlético de Newell's goalkeeper Dušan Ančic to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Dušan Ančic showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alberto Tafalla, who was totally free with the ball in the 40th minute. Dante Lacasa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sebastian Percival, who was totally free with the ball in the 41st minute. In the 43rd minute Joel Gaona shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dušan Ančic saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Alberto Tafalla had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After the first half Mexico were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Sebastian Percival to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute of the match, Joel Gaona tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Dušan Ančic saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. A hard shot 55 in the game by Lautaro Mancebo from a close distance when the talented Dušan Ančic managed to make a qualified save. Club Atlético de Newell's players were relieved. Dante Lacasa came out of the goal in the 57th minute to try and stop a shot by Club Atlético de Newell's Sebastian Percival. But to his dismay, Sebastian Percival quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-2. Dušan Ančic made a fantastic save in the 60th minute, when Lautaro Mancebo sent off a good shot on target. Lautaro Mancebo in the 61stth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Dušan Ančic, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Joel Gaona in the 63rd minute of play forced Club Atlético de Newell's goalkeeper Dušan Ančic to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Albert Gamble hit a great freekick 67 minutes into the match. Club Atlético de Newell's Casey Harban was substituted for Arbi Newell. The supporters of Mexico booed when Club Atlético de Newell was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 68 match minutes in a wonderful position. Albert Gamble didn't get a good kick on the ball. Dante Lacasa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Spike Foley, who was totally free with the ball in the 79th minute. The Club Atlético de Newell fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-2. Dušan Ančic was out of position in the 90 minute of play, and Lautaro Mancebo capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Lautaro Mancebo really showed his touch with that goal: 2-3. An unexpectedly hard shot by Joel Gaona in the 94th minute of play forced Club Atlético de Newell's goalkeeper Dušan Ančic to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Mexico had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
