When the match had gone on for 7 minutes, Axel Tasis took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Severiano Bartoli to make any attempt to save it. Lautaro Puig's late challenge caught a atletic Luprechauns's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Lautaro Puig helped the player get up and apologised. In the 9th match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lautaro Puig to maneuver through the defense. After 11 minutes of play, atletic Luprechauns's Roger Milla made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Benito Sanz was left in no man's land by his defense there! After a defensive mix-up in atletic Luprechauns's zone, Lautaro Puig stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Severiano Bartoli came out of the goal and Lautaro Puig tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Eliseo Noboa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 16th minute. Severiano Bartoli tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 17th minute the ball was on its way in behind atletic Luprechauns's goalkeeper Severiano Bartoli, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 19th match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alan Moruga to maneuver through the defense. 24 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Delmiro Eneko came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Alan Moruga fell near the penalty area in the 25th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Costa Rica's protests and gave Alan Moruga a yellow card for diving instead. The referee felt a red card was in order, 38 minutes into the game, when Alexander Carballo put in a rough tackle. Benito Sanz came out of the goal in the 47th minute to try and stop a shot by atletic Luprechauns's Roque Estavan. But to his dismay, Roque Estavan quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-3. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-3.

The audience thought a goal was coming when Roque Estavan got free with Benito Sanz in the 64th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 65 minutes into the game, Aldo Pe cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-4. Benito Sanz was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The audience thought a goal was coming when Roger Milla got free with Benito Sanz in the 69th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Lautaro Puig received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 72nd minute. Severiano Bartoli tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Eliseo Noboa kicked well hit freekick during the 76th minute of the match. Eliseo Noboa took the ball and in the 81 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Severiano Bartoli. Severiano Bartoli dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-4. The Costa Rica fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. atletic Luprechauns were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
