Olympique Gdynia's Tanek Ostrowski played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Julian Murillo in the 13th minute of play. 15 minutes into the match, Olympique Gdynia's goal looked a bit too open when Julian Murillo came free, but Tanek Ostrowski reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Rolando Noboa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tirso Isasaga, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 22nd minute Julian Murillo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tanek Ostrowski saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Tanek Ostrowski had in the 29thth minute some difficulties stopping Luz Tejedor's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. 31 minutes into the match, Olympique Gdynia's Jurand Frankowski sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Rolando Noboa narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Tanek Ostrowski showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luz Tejedor, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. Tanek Ostrowski made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Julian Murillo in the 39th minute of play. Julian Murillo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 41st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Julian Murillo might have been able to make a better finish in the 45th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Tanek Ostrowski. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Julian Murillo ran back to his position shaking his head. Milagros Fraga sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Julian Murillo made a kick off. Peru's attentive Eliseo Mina managed to snatch the ball when Charles Darwin made a throw-in in the 57th minute of the game. The audience thought a goal was coming when Luz Tejedor got free with Tanek Ostrowski in the 59th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 60th minute Peru were awarded a corner. Luz Tejedor went to the cornerflag to take it. After taking down the ball on Peru's corner Eliseo Mina fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Tanek Ostrowski quite easily take care of the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 63rd minute, Julian Murillo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Peru's supporters rose to their feet, but Julian Murillo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Tanek Ostrowski breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Czeslaw Domeracki's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Rolando Noboa read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 68th minute of play. After some careless play in the Peru defense, Czeslaw Domeracki kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Rolando Noboa. The Peru fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Rolando Noboa should have stopped the shot.
