In the 5th minute of the match Peru got a corner. Marquês de Herval's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Luz Tejedor ran over to the corner to take the kick. Dida Taffarel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luz Tejedor, who was totally free with the ball in the 6th minute. In the 8th minute, Julian Murillo left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Peru fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. 11 minutes into the game, Peru's Luz Tejedor nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Dida Taffarel made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. Peru's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Luz Tejedor in the 16th minute. Alfredo Martins might have been able to make a better finish in the 22nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Rolando Noboa. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Alfredo Martins ran back to his position shaking his head. 22 minutes into the match, Peru's goal looked a bit too open when Alfredo Martins came free, but Rolando Noboa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Dida Taffarel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Julian Murillo, who was totally free with the ball in the 24th minute. 26 minutes into the match, Marquês de Herval's goal looked a bit too open when Julian Murillo came free, but Dida Taffarel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 29thth minute of the game Julian Murillo who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Marquês de Herval's Dida Taffarel was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Alonso Berganza hit a great freekick 36 minutes into the match. Alfredo Martins's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Rolando Noboa read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 38th minute of play. A collision led to Marquês de Herval getting a freekick after 39 minutes play. Selami Rezan hit a great ball. In a very dangerous position, a player in Marquês de Herval fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 40th minute. Penalty! In the 45th minute, Milagros Fraga got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 46 minutes into the match, Peru's goalkeeper Rolando Noboa had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Alfredo Martins.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Julian Murillo to strike the kick off in the second half. Marquês de Herval's Dida Taffarel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luz Tejedor in the 52nd minute of play. Peru's Emmanuel Reyes was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Dida Taffarel in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Rolando Noboa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alfredo Martins, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Peru's Eliseo Mina managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by José Maria Ramalho in the 67 minute of the game. 70 minutes into the match, Marquês de Herval's goalkeeper Dida Taffarel had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Luz Tejedor. After 71 minutes Marquês de Herval's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Luz Tejedor who took care of the corner kick. The corner led to Peru's Moises Gayoso getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. Dida Taffarel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Julian Murillo in the 73rd minute of play. 76 minutes into the match, Marquês de Herval's goal looked a bit too open when Julian Murillo came free, but Dida Taffarel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 79th minute the ball was on its way in behind Marquês de Herval's goalkeeper Dida Taffarel, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The audience thought a goal was coming when Julian Murillo got free with Dida Taffarel in the 82nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Peru's Eliseo Alcocer was substituted for Moises Gayoso. Peru's Antonio Tenorio was substituted for Luz Tejedor. In the 84th minute of the game José Maria Ramalho made a throw-in which German Cano played forward. Rafael Gallo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 85th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Dida Taffarel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rafael Gallo in the 94th minute of the match. After 96 minutes Marquês de Herval's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Eliseo Mina who took care of the corner kick. A nice corner shot did that Antonio Tenorio got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Dida Taffarel quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. When the match clock showed 96 minutes, the score became 0-4 when Antonio Tenorio sped through Marquês de Herval's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Dida Taffarel. Peru played a much better game than Marquês de Herval and deserved their victory. The Marquês de Herval players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
