Tonginella's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Alberto Tafalla was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luca Zorita in the 14th minute of play forced Tonginella's goalkeeper Fausto Ursini to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Mexico were awarded a corner in the 15th minute after Tonginella's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Joel Gaona took the corner.
