The audience thought a goal was coming when Laurențiu Cinteză got free with Julio Vera in the 27th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Volker Harm took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Volker Harm showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. In the 39th minute of the match, Laurențiu Cinteză got a very nice opportunity to score, but Julio Vera was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. After some fancy dribbling in the 48th minute, Manfred Kottsieper managed to get in a good position for a shot. FC Hamburg's supporters rose to their feet, but Manfred Kottsieper was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. In the 58th minute, FC Hamburg's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Daniel Zorita fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post.
