With his leg Jonathan Ferrant managed to avoid a goal in the 11thth minute, when Fotbal Club Otelul Galati's Gelu Alexandrescu fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. When Gelu Alexandrescu came up free with the goalie in the 13th minute, the Fotbal Club Otelul Galati fans jumped to their feet. After 48 played minutes Fotbal Club Otelul Galati got a freekick which was hit by Horea Simionică. Af the end of the first half the score was 3-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Gelu Alexandrescu recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 53rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tomas Illescas in the 86th minute of play forced Fotbal Club Otelul Galati's goalkeeper Nechifor Păunescu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Venezuela's Rigoberto Mina got a free kick in the 86th minute. The excitement rose when Fotbal Club Otelul Galati's Doru Barna after 88 played minutes turned away three defenders near the goal, and after that shot a ball that was too difficult for Venezuela's goalkeeper to hold. Score! 4-0. Jonathan Ferrant showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Vali Cucu in the 90th minute of the match. 91 minutes into the game, Tomas Illescas was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Venezuela's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Fotbal Club Otelul Galati the free kick.
