After 10 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Tomas Illescas. After a defensive mix-up in Venezuela's zone, Gwidon Cwojdak stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jonathan Ferrant came out of the goal and Gwidon Cwojdak tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Tomas Illescas blasted a shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Arthur Bufi having to make a save. Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gwidon Cwojdak in the 24th minute of play. In the 25th minute, 余永川 made a precise shot to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. Venezuela's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-0. Jonathan Ferrant showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ye Hong Shi in the 28th minute of the match. 31 minutes into the match, Venezuela's Tomas Illescas sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Arthur Bufi narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Venezuela's Jose Correa managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Enrique de Mendonça in the 34 minute of the game. The supporters of Venezuela booed when Cruzeiro Esporte Clube was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 37 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gwidon Cwojdak didn't get a good kick on the ball. 余永川 sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Jonathan Ferrant made an important save on a dangerous shot by 余永川 in the 40th minute. After 45 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Guillermo Mariano. In the 46th minute, 余永川 got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Isidro Ferman hit a great freekick 52 minutes into the match. Jonathan Ferrant showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gong Fan, who was totally free with the ball in the 62nd minute. Cruzeiro Esporte Clube made a substitution. Gualter Meirelles replaced Pedro Paulo Dante. After 73 minutes Venezuela's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Luiz Guilherme Cearense who took care of the corner kick. When the match had gone on for 79 minutes, 余永川 put it in 2-0 from a short distance just to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. Jonathan Ferrant made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from 余永川 in the 82nd minute of play. Venezuela's Patricio Costa got a good chance for a goal in the 86th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by 余永川 in the 91st minute of play. Arthur Bufi showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tomas Illescas in the 95th minute of the match. For all the effort they put into the match, the Venezuela players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Cruzeiro Esporte Clube.
