Carboncito's Higinio Brion tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Isidoro Cordarryl in the 21st minute of the match. Isidoro Cordarryl blasted a shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Julio Vera having to make a save. In the 26th minute Isidoro Cordarryl shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 28 minutes into the match, Carboncito's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Higinio Brion reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a left leg Higinio Brion saved Carboncito from getting behind. 36 minutes into the game, Juan Sebastián Puig was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Ecuador's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Carboncito the free kick. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Daniel Zorita made a kick off. A collision led to Carboncito getting a freekick after 51 minutes play.
