Julio Vera was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but 余永川 showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 8 minute of play. Arthur Bufi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 14th minute of play. 19 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Gong Fan came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 22 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Ye Hong Shi came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Julio Vera made a fantastic save in the 26th minute, when 余永川 sent off a good shot on target. Daniel Zorita kicked well hit freekick during the 29th minute of the match. 余永川 who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 32ndth minute tested the skills of Julio Vera when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Enrique de Mendonça fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. Primitivo Andino hit a great freekick 45 minutes into the match.

The wind increased when Daniel Zorita made the kick off in the second half. After some fancy dribbling in the 53rd minute, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Daniel Zorita was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Arthur Bufi breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Ecuador were awarded a corner in the 56th minute after Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Daniel Zorita took the corner. A nice corner shot did that Daniel Zorita got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Arthur Bufi quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gwidon Cwojdak, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by 余永川 in the 68th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Ecuador's zone, Gwidon Cwojdak stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Julio Vera came out of the goal and Gwidon Cwojdak tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Cruzeiro Esporte Clube made a substitution. Gualter Meirelles replaced Pedro Paulo Dante. Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Cristi Saron was substituted for Oswaldo Maranhense. In the 73rd match minute, Cruzeiro Esporte Clube was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gong Fan to maneuver through the defense. Daniel Zorita's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Arthur Bufi firmly grabbed it by the left post. Arthur Bufi made a fantastic save in the 88th minute, when Cristian Sancho sent off a good shot on target. If 余永川 had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Olavo Quadros got a good chance for a goal in the 93rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Gualter Meirelles kicked well hit freekick during the 95th minute of the match. Despite being the better team, Ecuador failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
