Venezuela were awarded a corner in the 7th minute after Pucará's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Tomas Illescas took the corner. The corner ended in Tomas Illescas almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Pucará's Lautaro Morales did a great save. Jonathan Venegas was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. In the 10th minute, Julián Aude hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 13 minutes Venezuela's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Basilio Bertran who took care of the corner kick. If Tomas Illescas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 1-0 became the score in the 24th minute when Dario Artizar elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. Tomas Illescas sent away a hard shot on goal in the 30th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Dario Artizar could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 32nd minute of the match, but Jonathan Ferrant made a huge save. Lautaro Morales stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Tomas Illescas's shot from short distance in the 33rd minute. 42 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goal looked a bit too open when Faustino Sayveon came free, but Jonathan Ferrant reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The audience was convinced that Tomás Belmonte's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jonathan Ferrant was relentless in the 45th minute of the game. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

After 87 minutes, Camilo Gaos mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Venezuela and the Pucará players grew even worse after the yellow card.
