An unexpectedly hard shot by Renato Augusto in the 7th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 11th minute the ball was on its way in behind S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's goalkeeper Esen Sanal, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Renato Augusto's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Julio Vera firmly grabbed it by the left post. Cristian Sancho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 38th minute. Esen Sanal tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Krisztián Véber got free with Julio Vera in the 40th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Felix Montenegro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Esen Sanal having to interfere.

The wind increased when Renato Augusto made the kick off in the second half. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Renato Augusto in the 52nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Julio Vera prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 54 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Lei Feng Yan came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Esen Sanal made a fantastic save in the 65th minute, when Daniel Zorita sent off a good shot on target. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lei Feng Yan in the 67th minute of play. With a little luck, S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Esen Sanal got control of the ball when Daniel Zorita tried to sneak it across the goal line. Luis Andino blasted a shot towards the goal in the 72nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Esen Sanal having to make a save. In the 72nd minute Luis Andino shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Esen Sanal saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Caxias do Sul's Faustão Châton got a free kick in the 76th minute. Felix Montenegros short, quick shot in the 78thth minute got Esen Sanal to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lei Feng Yan in the 85th minute of play. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Esen Sanal having to interfere. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Ecuador players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
