Cecilio Jax took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mariano Lacasa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 12th minute, Mariano Lacasa ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Cecilio Jax was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. 15 minutes into the match, Chile's goal looked a bit too open when Carmelo Osoitz came free, but Thiago Pliego reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Thiago Pliego made an important save on a dangerous shot by Luciano Selmo in the 18th minute. Mariano Lacasa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 20th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. San Martin de Tucuman were furious when Eriberto Osasun was red carded, 25 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. In the 25th minute, one of San Martin de Tucuman:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for San Martin de Tucuman. The referee gave Chile a penalty, 28 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Mariano Lacasa, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of San Martin de Tucuman's Cecilio Jax. 0-3. 32 minutes into the match, Chile's goalkeeper Thiago Pliego had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Paulino Lamberto. Thiago Pliego made a fantastic save in the 42nd minute, when Ubaldo Veto sent off a good shot on target. In the 43rd minute the ball was on its way in behind San Martin de Tucuman's goalkeeper Cecilio Jax, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The San Martin de Tucuman players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Chile were winning 0-3.

In the 56th match minute, San Martin de Tucuman was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ulises Dominguez to maneuver through the defense. Cecilio Jax showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mariano Lacasa, who was totally free with the ball in the 72nd minute. With a little luck, San Martin de Tucuman's Cecilio Jax got control of the ball when Mariano Lacasa tried to sneak it across the goal line. After 78 played minutes San Martin de Tucuman got a freekick which was hit by Marcial Munio. Mariano Lacasa could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 88th minute of the match, but Cecilio Jax made a huge save.
