After the first half Ecuador were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

It was Felix Montenegro who took care of the corner kick. 88 minutes had been played when some careless play by Encarale a la gordita's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Felix Montenegro was slow to take the kick. During this time Ecuador's players had a chance to rest. The corner led Ecuador's Felix Montenegro to fire away a dangerous shot which Laerte Messias despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Cristian Sancho could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 95th minute of the match, but Laerte Messias made a huge save. After taking down the ball on Ecuador's corner Felix Montenegro fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Laerte Messias quite easily take care of the ball. Ecuador's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
