When Ferrando Astudillo fell near the penalty area in the 21st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Junta De Los Rios CF's protests and gave Ferrando Astudillo a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Chile booed when Junta De Los Rios CF was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 21 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ferrando Astudillo didn't get a good kick on the ball. Mariano Lacasa's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Amuruza Lillo read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 40th minute of play. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.
