Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Saturnino Lehior in the 16th minute of play. In the 17th match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cristian Sancho to maneuver through the defense. In the 22nd minute Ecuador were awarded a corner. Daniel Zorita went to the cornerflag to take it. The supporters of Villa Mitre City booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. When Felix Montenegro came up free with the goalie in the 28th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Felix Montenegro couldn't finish the play. In the 30th match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Felix Montenegro to maneuver through the defense. After some fancy dribbling in the 36th minute, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Daniel Zorita was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ariel Ponc breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Ariel Ponc showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luis Andino, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. Villa Mitre City's defense didn't have a chance, in the 46th minute, when Daniel Zorita scored to the left of an out of position Ariel Ponc, making the score, 2-1. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-1 at half-time.

Ariel Ponc showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 75th minute. Mauricio Macías's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Julio Vera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 77th minute of play.
