El Salvador's Moises Fernandino got a good chance for a goal in the 38th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. With a little luck, El Salvador's Ricardo Zorita got control of the ball when Osvaldo Ferrero tried to sneak it across the goal line. If Osvaldo Ferrero had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Af the end of the first half the score was 4-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Marco Tamayo kicked well hit freekick during the 51st minute of the match. Ricardo Zorita showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Vicente Confesor, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. When the match clock showed 60 minutes, the score became 5-1 when Osvaldo Ferrero sped through El Salvador's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Ricardo Zorita.
