After a rather tough play, El Salvador's Valentino Ferrant got a free kick in the 6th minute. Mihail Toader could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 9th minute of the match, but Ricardo Zorita made a huge save. The crowd rose to their feet as Mihail Toader kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Ricardo Zorita. That made the score 1-0 in the 10 minute of play. The supporters of R.C. Marseille booed when El Salvador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 13 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mateo Leguizamo didn't get a good kick on the ball. When the match had gone on for 15 minutes, Cyrille Melon took a quick shot and it went in 2-0 without a chance for Ricardo Zorita to make any attempt to save it. El Salvador made a substitution. Alonzo Pomar replaced Abram Luque. After 19 played minutes R.C. Marseille got a freekick which was hit by Cyrille Melon. After 20 played minutes El Salvador got a freekick which was hit by Marco Tamayo. In the 24th minute, Renan Bouzat got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After having played for 26 minutes, Cyrille Melon managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. R.C. Marseille's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cyrille Melon was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 30th minute, Cyrille Melon managed to get in a good position for a shot. R.C. Marseille's supporters rose to their feet, but Cyrille Melon was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ricardo Zorita breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When Song Xing Le came up free with the goalie in the 38th minute, the R.C. Marseille fans jumped to their feet. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With his leg Ricardo Zorita managed to avoid a goal in the 45thth minute, when R.C. Marseille's Cyrille Melon fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. In the 46th match minute, El Salvador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mateo Leguizamo to maneuver through the defense. After some careless play in the El Salvador defense, Cyrille Melon kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ricardo Zorita. The El Salvador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ricardo Zorita should have stopped the shot. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Moises Fernandino was the one to do the kick off. Ricardo Zorita came out of the goal in the 66th minute to try and stop a shot by R.C. Marseille's Cyrille Melon. But to his dismay, Cyrille Melon quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-0. In the 71st minute Cyrille Melon shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ricardo Zorita saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ricardo Zorita made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cyrille Melon in the 73rd minute of play. Ricardo Zorita showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mihail Toader in the 76th minute of the match. El Salvador's Ricardo Zorita played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cyrille Melon in the 88th minute of play. 90 minutes into the match, El Salvador's goal looked a bit too open when Cyrille Melon came free, but Ricardo Zorita reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. R.C. Marseille's Renan Bouzat suffered a concussion in the 94th minute, after a hard challenge, and had to leave the field. When Jesus Carvallo fell near the penalty area in the 94th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored El Salvador's protests and gave Jesus Carvallo a yellow card for diving instead. R.C. Marseille made a substitution. Achille Fritsch replaced Renan Bouzat. In the 95th match minute, El Salvador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jesus Carvallo to maneuver through the defense.
